Custom Mesh Design & Workflow
My workflow includes actively keeping clients up-to-date on with each and every stage that we go through. Step-by-step, I want to be certain that we do everything right in order to create this product to the defined specifications as precisely as possible.
Each Model IS Different, but My Workflow is not!
All Mesh projects follow a similar workflow:
Stage Zero: The Client Agreement: Order form must be submitted & agreements/acknowledgments must be made to start the project. We will have a meeting to discuss details and then finally begin the project!
Stage One: The Designing of the Concept; We can gather source materials to create Digital Concept Art or work directly from a photo—Please note, I try to be wary in what we plan to create due to possible copyright and/or IP infringement. You will be notified if changes must be made.
Stage Two: Base Model Creation; Includes the 3D Modeling of the client's mesh (+ additional meshes and/or sculpting)
Stage Three: UV Unwrapping; The action of creating a flat map that represents the surface of a 3D Model to easily wrap textures around.
Stage Four: Baking the Mesh; Process of saving information from 3D Objects to texture files that help reduce cost of land impact, polygons and more when low-poly models are utilized.
Stage Five: Creating Texture Maps; Diffuse Texture (Color), Normal Map (Bump, simulated depth) and Specular (Gloss/Shine) for best results for Second Life!
Stage Six: Rigging/Skinning/Animation (If Applicable) — Rigging/Skinning to character bones; Clothes for example most likely need to be weighted to bones. Animating; Creating custom animations or mesh that is to be animated, such as a fabric banner.
Stage Seven: Beta Testing and Mesh Uploading to Second Life.
Other potential steps can include:
•Creation of Mesh for Physics; Some models require physics mesh to accompany a model upload for the purpose of properly working physics. Example: You need to define the physics of a doorframe of a building.
• And more!

The Design Process
After client agreements are made, we will have a meeting to discuss the details of your project, so that together, we can plan how to bring your model to life. As a first step, we'll thoroughly discuss the best way to design your model; the fine details that are absolutely necessary are extremely significant to our work—We will either create concept art or use your source material (likely an image of yours) or compile the concept together. This way, we can visualize our ideas—All the while remaining on the lookout to avoid copyright infringements.
We may also discuss your budget so that we can better assist you in making the necessary decisions in order to retain your unique vision; keeping in mind that potential changes or adjustments can be made to reduce cost. Next, we'll finalize the plan and get to the modeling stage. At times, we will ask for you to pay the base price up front. Once the modeling stage is finished, we will finalize it—There cannot be any major changes to the mesh from here on out. Throughout the entire process, I will continuously update you through varying methods; pictures, short videos, text communication or at times, voice calls and even Live-Streams for the use of your particular set of eyes. In the final stage, we will take care of payment before you receive your product in-world, uploaded and textured for you.
